I am trained to use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR). I also integrate coaching skills and I am qualified in Neuro-Linguistic Processing (NLP). I have received instruction and training in Mindfulness and apply this within therapy. I am a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC and have Chartered status with the BPS. I began my career in psychology in 1997, working with offenders in the community for the Probation Service. My interest in understanding forensic pathways then led me to the Prison Service, where I worked for 15 years. I qualified in 2004 as a Forensic Psychologist. Working with male and female adult offenders, staffing groups, Senior Managers, the Police and Public Protection agencies helped me to develop an understanding of the huge impact past experiences have upon how people interpret the world in the ‘here and now’. Understanding the interconnection between mind and body, thoughts and behaviours has driven me throughout this time. Every person is unique and will experience situations, reactions and life events from their individual perspective. All my therapeutic interventions acknowledge the attributes the client brings to the interaction. And of course, I am human too! As a positive consequence of an injury and an accident, I have developed a particular interest in working with people who have specific health conditions. Our psychological wellbeing can have a detrimental impact upon our bodies, andthis is often seen when people experience anxiety, depression or trauma. Our sleep patterns can be greatly affected, as can our eating habits and use of substances including alcohol, cigarettes/vaping and prescribed/non-prescribed medications. I have significant experience of working therapeutically with people who have long-term, organic or functional health difficulties. This includes adapting to physical injuries following an accident, working with neuropathic pain conditions including Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), arthritis, cystic fibrosis and fibromyalgia. I am aware of the issues relating to Phantom Limb Syndrome and have had discussions relating to amputation. I have also developed a speciality in working with adults and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and supporting carers and siblings.
