About me

My name is Dr Emily Haythornthwaite. I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I am a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). I hold a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and also hold a Masters Degree in Forensic Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Driven by my past life experiences, I have always felt that my purpose in life is to help others. I have a strong belief that what happens in one’s life does not have to determine their life trajectory. We are more than what has happened to us. My experience means that I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties including: - Depression - Anxiety (including panic, social anxiety and specific phobias) - Low self-esteem - Relationship difficulties / attachment difficulties - Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) - Trauma (including childhood and complex) - Veteran’s mental health - Voice hearing experiences I have strong values of compassion and fairness. It is important to find the right psychologist for you. I believe that the therapeutic relationship and connection are the catalyst in which growth and change can happen. Brene Brown defines connection as “the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard and valued; when they can give and receive without judgement; and when they derive sustenance and strength”. I aim to create a compassionate and safe space for you to feel listened to. I will work with you to build a shared understanding of your difficulties and to guide our time working together. I have experience and training within a variety of psychological therapies, including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation Therapy (EMDR), Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I have also completed further training within Polyvagal Theory. My experience enables me to help integrate different psychological models to meet your needs
