About me

Dr Monika Badhan is a Consultant Psychiatrist. She completed an Honors research degree in Psychology with distinction at Western University in Canada. She graduated from Hull York Medical School in Yorkshire and undertook her Psychiatry training in the prestigious North Central London training scheme, working in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition to this, Dr Badhan is internationally accredited, and is certified by both the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Canada. Dr Badhan is a holistic practitioner and considers the biological, psychological and social factors that may underpin a patient’s presentation, and how these can all change over time. She is grounded by an evidence-based approach but is also keen to work with her patients in a collaboration that seeks to understand the meaning behind their symptoms. Dr Badhan has experience in a variety of psychotherapy models which she draws on, when appropriate, in her practice. Dr Badhan currently practices within the NHS in a busy inner-city Crisis Service in London and is skilled at the management of emergency presentations, as well as long-term psychiatric conditions and the different ways they manifest across a person’s life. Having lived and worked across the UK as well as abroad, she is sensitive to the stresses faced by UK citizens from all walks of life as well as the unique challenges of expats. She has a background in research and herself has contributed to the growing literature around telemental health and the covid-19 pandemic. She understands the sensitivities required around seeing or assessing someone remotely. She has a passion for the arts and their role in mental health and she is on the executive committee as Communications Lead for the Royal College of Psychiatrists Art and Psychiatry Special Interest Group (ARTSIG).
